C NEILD AND SOMDAL O P Architects Y City Bank Building Shreveport 23, Louisiana 1 December 1949 Dear Mr. Winslow: I have your letter and the latest plans of the White House Reconstruction, and it is my frank opinion that the arrange- ment is excellent throughout. I like the final design of the Entrance Hall and Main Stair- way and realize that the solution was quite a problem. I note with interest the changes in the East Room and can visualize a fine design, particularly with modification of the French style. The addition of the West Sitting Hall is a decided improvement in the President's living quarters. I did not go to Washington in October as originally planned and expect to pass through on my way to New York in January as I am leaving on a six weeks' tour of the Mediterranean. If possible, I shall stop off for a short visit with you in March on my return. Please remember me to Charles Barber and tell him that I would like very much to receive prints of the final design of the foundations and sub-structure. With congratulations and best wishes, I am Sincerely, INATIONAL ARCHIVES AND RECORDS is SERVICE (Signed) Edward F. Neild Mr. Lorenzo S. Winslow Architect of the White House Washington, D. C.
