Dear Mr. Winslow:
I have your letter and the latest plans of the White House
Reconstruction, and it is my frank opinion that the arrange-
ment is excellent throughout.
I like the final design of the Entrance Hall and Main Stair-
way and realize that the solution was quite a problem. I
note with interest the changes in the East Room and can
visualize a fine design, particularly with modification of
the French style. The addition of the West Sitting Hall is
a decided improvement in the President's living quarters.
I did not go to Washington in October as originally planned
and expect to pass through on my way to New York in January
as I am leaving on a six weeks' tour of the Mediterranean.
If possible, I shall stop off for a short visit with you in
March on my return.
Please remember me to Charles Barber and tell him that I
would like very much to receive prints of the final design
of the foundations and sub-structure.
