THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
15 February, 1950.
Memorandum For The President:
In an informal expression from the Attorneys
of several Government Departments I have been informed
that the matter of Interior Decoration of the Exec-
utive Mansion is beyond the scope of the authority
of the Commission on Renovation of the Executive
Mansion.
$200,000 has been appropriated for this
purpose. This amount is disbursable by the General
Services Administration at present.
Messrs. Orr and Dougherty have an appointment
to see the President at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, 17 February
and it may be that the President would like to discuss
this subject with those gen tlemen at that time in order
that there be no misunderstanding regarding this matter.
Mr. Hopkins and I would be pleased to supply any addi-
tional information that the President may desire.
