whitestouse (COPY) Executive Director, Commission on August 1, 1951 Renovation of the Executive Mansion Messrs. Hauck, Thorn, and Kelley Renovation of the Executive Mansion Project 49-100-8 Completion Schedule -- Your Memorandum of July 19, 1951 As directed by the Commission, careful consideration has been given to a forecast of the probable date when the Executive Mansion will be completed and furnished, ready for occupancy. A construction progress schedule revised as of August 1, is attached. We conclude that the construction and closely related work within the Mansion and the essential approach work will be completed by December 15, 1951, excluding the installation of Special Lighting Fixtures and the placing and installing of furniture and furnishings. The above may be regarded as a firm date, barring a catastrophe. However, with the utmost cooperation of all concerned, we are hopeful that the construction project will be completed sometime between November 15 and December 1. Mr. Haight of B. Altman & Co. has indicated that he can complete his installation in 30 days. Assuming that the 0. R. Evans Co. (and Edw. F. Caldwell) can complete the fixtures ready for installation in 42 months from August 1, and actually start installation by December 15, it is believed that 4 weeks would be ample time for the entire installa- tion, indicating an occupancy date of January 15, 1952. In support of the date forecast, the following is offered: Over and above any close and revised scheduling of the work of numerous subcontracts, there remain many intangibles and time-consuming contingencies which are difficult to evaluate. We believe that the entire mechanical and electrical work, including all fixtures and equipment (excluding Special Lighting Fixtures), and the complete elevator and dumb- waiter installation will be completed during the month of November. The subcontracts which give the greatest concern are: a. Finished Wood Flooring b. Marble, including Mantels RECORDS AND and SERVICE"
