August 3, 1951 white House EXECUTIVE MANSION RENOVATION PROGRESS REPORT TO AND INCLUDING AUGUST 2, 1951 To the Chairman and Members of the Commission: WORK 100% COMPLETE TROMAN DEMOLITION FOOTINGS GUNITE DISMANTLING SHORING UNDERPINNING EXCAVATION STRUCTURAL STEEL SUB-DRAINAGE CONCRETE - 99% Remaining work - Complete floor fills and floor slab of Exhaust Tunnel. BRICK & TILE - 99% Remaining work - Miscellaneous partitions and fireplaces. MISCELLANEOUS IRON - 85% Item complete except for installation of miscellaneous pipe rails and ladders. ORNAMENTAL METAL - Reconditioning old materials. LATH & PLASTER - 98% Lathing - Complete. Plastering - All flat work complete except in misc. locations. Ornamental work in Main Lobby and Hall proceeding and practically complete. INSULATION - 90% - No Change INTERIOR MARBLE - 40% - No Change Main Lobby pilasters and misc. marble received. Marble work on Ground Floor is complete except floor in Old Kitchen and mantels. EXTERIOR STONE - 25% - No Change Stone work on roof about complete. Shop drawings being submitted. HOLLOW METAL - 25% - No Change (Strike continues at Dahlstrom Plant) ROOF & SHEET METAL - 20% - No Change Entire roof now water-tight. Laying quarry tile on Promenade. WATERPROOFING - 95% - No Change UNDERGROUND VAULTS - 98% - Completing backfill. APPROACH WORK - 5% - Driveway slab on N.W. side installed. STRUCTURAL GLASS - 10% - Dental Room and three (3) Showers tiled. CARPENTRY - 95% - No Change other than misc. grounds.
