The extenaion of civil rights today means, not protection of the people sgainst the Government, but protection of the people by the Government. The only limit n to en American's achievement should be hie ability, bis industry and hie character. The roverda for bie offort abould be determined only by these truly rolevant qualities. Our immodiate task is to remove the lest remants of the berriere which atand between millions of our citizona and their birthright. There is no justifiable reason for discrimination because of ancestry, or religion, or reco, or color. Ve mast not tolerate euch linitations on the freedou of any of our peogle and on thoir enjoyment of the baate rights which every citizen in a truly democratic society muat possess.
