MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Letter from Mr. Midkiff Regarding
our Asia Policy
With reference to the attached copy of a letter to
you from Mr. Frank E. Midkiff, the Department of State
has also had the view, expressed by Mr. Midkiff, that
Consul General Angus Ward should have ample opportunity
to give his story to the American people generally.
Mr. Ward has already had full freedom to recount this
story to press correspondents in Japan and in this
country. In addition, Mr. Ward has appointments for
appearances on national radio programs and numerous
engagements to speak before service clubs and other
organizations. We believe that his story will thus
reach a wide audience.
