: Mr. S. A. Andretta, Administrative
DATE: September 25, 1951
Assistant Attorney General
FROM : Mr. Roy H. Webb, Training Officer
SUBJECT: A plan for the additional force of deputy marshals
in Alaska.
In the event twenty-five additional deputies are
authorized for Alaska and funds are provided to equip them,
I would suggest the following:
Thirteen deputies to be assigned to Anchorage
Ten deputies assigned to Fairbanks
One deputy assigned to Nome
One deputy assigned to Juneau
These deputies should be used as follows:
Anchorage
AND
Six deputies assigned to patrol duty in radio equipped

automobiles to work the area outside the city limits. They
would work in three 8-hour shifts with one relief shift making
a total of eight men in four teams. In addition, two men
should be assigned as a detective team to work with the District
Attorney in developing evidence for trial. The one remaining
deputy would be a stenographer either male or female, preferably
male.
Fairbanks
Six deputies assigned to regular patrol duty outside the city
limits. One deputy as a relief man. Two deputies as a detective
team to work with the District Attorney, and one deputy stenographer.
Juneau
One deputy to be used as a roving deputy for any assignment in
the division.
Nome
One deputy to be used as a roving deputy for any assignment in
the division.
Equipment
For Anchorage and Fairbanks, there should be three sedans, preferably
Pontiac, in each city. Each car should be equipped with two-way radio,
heater, red light sirens, first aid kits, and riot guns. The automobiles
assigned to Juneau and Nome need not have this equipment at this time.
