man - 2 - Without in any way mentioning Saudi Arabia, the Charge d'Affaires was requested to tell the Government of Great Britain that the American Government is disturbed by reports which are reaching it from various Near East capitals in regard to King Abdullah's plans for a Greater Syria. A clear statement of the British position in this matter was requested at that time but no reply has as yet been received from the British Government in London. (2) When he was here in mid January, the Crown Prince re- quested a $50 million development loan from the United States to cover all projects now under way in Saudi Arabia, including a rail- road. The State Department is endeavoring to work out plans whereby the railroad can be built. Since it is felt to be in the American interest that this railroad be constructed, you may care to add that you hope that ways and means will be found to enable the railroad to be built. The Government of Saudi Arabia has already received an Export- Import Bank loan of $10 million and a further line of credit for $15 million for Saudi Arabia is on the books of the Bank. (3) The third topic about which the Crown Prince was particular- ly interested in was Palestine. The United States has followed developments in London very closely and is desirous that a solution may be found to the Palestine problem which will be just and acceptable to both Arabs and Jews. feam Publism DICLASSIFIED E.
