MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT:
In a recent personal letter to me from James Bruce, our
Ambassador to Argentina, he said:
"As reported to the Department, the Argentine has
agreed to sell their cereals at market prices and Peron
signified several times the intention of taking an interest
in the plan.
"Since dictating the above I have been with President
Peron informally. He said that the Argentine would sell
grains under the Marshall plan at whatever price the U.S.
thought fair, and that he was tired of reading press reports
that the Argentine was an obstructionist. He said that he
would make a public statement to this effect in the very
near future.'
I have informed Secretary Harriman and Secretary Anderson
of this matter.
