Information compiled by the Department of Post-War
struction, Division of Industrial Development, represents the
most interesting study of investment and expenditure in manu=
facturing since 1945. Reference is made to the chart appended
to the Division's report submitted herewith as enclosure No. 1.
According to the data found therein, 1565 new manufacturing
businesses with a nominal capital of 2A75,387,150 have been
initiated between September 1945 and June 1948. During this
same period, amounts invested or proposed (based on issued
capital and/or estimated expenditures) amounted to 2A41,107,150
for new businesses and 2A102, 922, 200 for expansion of estab-
lished enterprises, for e total probable expenditure of
£A144,029,350. The following table sunmarizes the total
capital expenditure invested or proposed for each industrial
group surveyed. (From September 1945 to June 1948.)
