Guideline, June 12, 1979, By NLT- HL NARS, Date 10.22.62 DRAPI TREATY (For Consideration by the Governments of Australia, Now Zealand and the United States of Amorica) The Parties to this Troaty, Reaffirming their faith in the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and their desire to live in peace with all peoples and all Governments, and desiring to strengthon the fabrie of peace in the Pacifie Area, Noting that the United States already has arrange- ments pursuant to which its armed forces are atationed in the Philippines, and hna armed forces and administra- tive responsibilities in the Ryulcyus, and upon the doming into foroo of the Japane ce Pesco Treaty may also station anned forces in and about Japan to assist in the preservation of peace and security in the Japun area, Recognizing that Australia and Now Zealand as members of the British Commonwealth of Nations have military obligations outside as vell as within the Pacific Area, Desiring to declare publicly and formally their sense of unity, so that no potential aggressor could be under the illusion that any of them stand mlone in the Pacific Aroa, and Deairing further to coordinate their efforts for collective defense for the preservation of peace and securi ty pending the development of a more comprehensive system of regional security in the Pacific Aroa, Thorefore declare and agroe as follows: a
