MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject:
Courtesy Visit of Australian Prime Minister,
The Right Honorable R. G. Menzies, at 5:00 P.M., December 20.
Mr. Menzies is calling to pay his respects before returning
to Australia. He arrived in New York on Wednesday from London,
where he has been attending the Commonwealt) Prime Ministers
Conference and plans to leave here early Sunday afternoon on his
return trip to Australia. He is accompanied by his daughter,
Miss Heather Menzies, but not by his wife.
On Friday he paid a courtesy call on General Eisenhower in
New York.
Although we have been informed by the Australian Embassy
that Mr. Menzies wishes to pay his respects and has no matter of
business to discuss, it is possible that he may have some
observation to make on the recently concluded Commonwealth
Conference in London. (While the only immediate definite action
resulting from the London conference seems to be a decision to
