Quadripartite Affairs. Reference our cable PC 1818: to Joint Chief's of Staff dated 28 January 1949. Political. Election scheduled for October. The Socialist Party has agreed to raise no objection to the Peoples Party proposal to hold the Austrian Parliamentary Elections in October, although socialist speakers have indicated that they would profer elections in the spring. Hungary suspends frontier traffic. The Hungarian government informed the Austrian government that the issue of normal border crossing permits for persons living on or near the Austro-Hungarian frontier has been discontinued. Austrian government refuses to submit to radio censor- ship. The Austrian cabinet has resolved that in the future, members of the Austrian government will not submit any speeches which they propose to deliver over the radio for precensorship by one of the occupying powers. It was further resolved to address a new protest against Allied censorship to the Allied Council. Economics-Finance. Railroads. Due to abnormally warm weather during the latter part of January, it was possible to increase production of hydro-electric power in the federal railroads hydro-electric plants. This made it possible to use electric traction for all traffic over electri. fied lines (including the recently electrified line between aregenz and St Margarethen). Hi ghway transport.
