Memorandum for: Honorable Dean Acheson
Secretary of State

The President
The Ambassador of Brazil was in to see me Friday and
handed me a note of thanks from the President of Brazil
for a present which the Secretary of State handed him
while he was in Rio de Janeiro.
The Ambassador also handed me an aquamarine ring for
Margaret from Mrs. Vargas. As soon as Margaret gets
back from her trip she will write to the wife of the
President of Brazil and thank her for the ring but it
occurred to me that it bught to be officially acknowledged
before that time because it will be several days before
Margaret can write her note of thanks.
