R. ü. Riddell expected to be named Head of Canada's Permanent Delegation to United Nations. It is reported that H. Go Riddell, Special Amsistant to the Secretary of State for External Affairs, will be named to head Canada's permanent delegation to the United Nations, but no official announcement of his appointment will be made until formal Cabinet approval has been given. Mr.o Riddell will suceesd General Ao G.° La NoNaughton who rgo signed from the post in January when Canada ceased to be a member of the Security Council. It is understood there was at first some doubt whether a pormanent delegation should continue to be maintained, but it was decided that such representation would be worthwhile even without Security Council membership. Mx. John W. Holmes (present Head of the United Nations Division of the Department of External Affairs) has been asting as temporary head of the delegation aince January. Mr. Riddell is net ex- peeted to assume his duties until July or August singe it is felt External Affairs Minister Pearson will vant him to remain in his present position until after the prorogation of the present session of Parliament. He formerly was Head of the Department's United Nations Division and is woll known in Unitod Nations ciroleso Mr. Riddell le an able man, having a keen understanding of Americana and being disposed to friendliness to them and to the Uni ted States.
