Many distinguished personages attend the banquet and gala ball held last night in the Presidential Palace by his Excellency, the President of the Republic in honor of the foreign missions visiting our country. -- "Foreign rela- tions of Chile always inter-American in principle approach new economic successes with all her brother nations of the South American Continent. Il SERVICE' LOORDS A brilliant group of foreign notables attended the grand banquet and gala ball tendered last night in the Moneda Palace by his Excellency, President of the Republic, the Honorable Gonzalez Videla, in honor of the foreign missions who are visiting our country to attend the inauguration of the supreme executive. The State Palace was especially decorated both in the State Salons and in the Grand Banquet Hall where the dinner was served. The table of honor was occupied by his Excellency, the Honorable Gonzalez Videla, the Vice-Presidents of Argentina, Peru, and Brazil, the personal envoy of President Truman, Admiral William Leahy, the Ministers of Foreign Relations, and Chiefs of the special delegations, accompanied by their wives, the Presidents of the Supreme Court, the Comptroller General of the Republic, the Apostolic Nuncio, former Vice-Presidents of the Republic, Ministers of State, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the Heads of Political Parties and, other high officials. When the champagne was served, his Excellency the President of the Republic thanked the Vice-President of Argentina, his Excellency Don Hortensio Quijano, for his remarks on behalf of the foreign representatives, with the following words: "The people and the Government of Chile welcome with great pleasure the visit of the illustrious representatives of the free countries who, with their presence, honor the most solemn act of our national life - the assumption of power of that citizen elected by the free and sovereign vote of the people, to rule the destinies of the Republic. - 1 -
