THE
PRESIDENT OF THE EXECUTIVE YUAN
NATIONAL GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA
30 August 1945
Dear Mr. President:
Confirming my conversation with you this morning, I am
asked by President Chiang Kai-shek to request that military, naval
and air missions be maintained in China to assist in reorganizing
her land, air, and naval forces. Possibly an officer could be
selected as Chief of Missions to coordinate the work of the three
branches of the service.
In addition to the functions of advising in the reorgani-
zation and training of Chinese forces, the mission would also
assist China in reorganizing her arsenals and her services of sup-
ply.
President Chiang hopes that with the traditional friend-
ship between China and the United States now forged more strongly
than ever by comradeship in this war, the United States would be
willing to give us this assistance.
With high respect,
Yours sincerely,
