C. : GOVEN Dear General Vaughan: A confidential source has advised that approximately fifty people, including leaders of the Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee, veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and representative of various Communist Party clubs in New York City, recently met with Tung Pi Wu, Communist Chinese Delegate to the San Francisco Conference; Chen Chia Kang, Liaison Officer between the Chinese Red Armies and the United States Military Delegation at Yenan, and Chang Han-fu, Editor of the "New China Daily", Communist newspaper published at Chunking. The meet- ing was held at the home of Charlotte Honig, 320 West 83rd Street, New York City, and the purpose was reportedly to instigate a campaign by Com- munist Party clubs and various front organizations in New York City to support the activities of the #Committee for Democratic Policy Toward China", 58 Park Avenue, New York City, which plans to institute an in- tensive campaign to acquaint the people of America with the true facts of the MundemocraticM conditions existing under the Nationalist Govern- ment of China. It was said that the following individuals were among those present at the meeting: Dr. I. J. and Mrs. Kaunman; William and Martha Dobkin; William Gleason and Al Woods, members of the National Maritime Union; and Felix Kusman of the Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee. The informant also stated that another meeting is scheduled to be held at the home of Charlotte Honig within the next few weeks and that among those invited are: Ben Gold; Joe Curran; Frederick Blackie Meyer; Ferdinand Smith; Lewis Merrill; Lewis Weinstock; and Mike Quill. Tung Pi Wu reportedly has signified his willingness to address this meeting. A letter is allegedly being distributed by the Committee for Democratic Policy Toward China dated August 26, 1945, which appears to set forth the direction of its activities.
