President Harry S. Truman
Washington, D. C.
Dear President Truman:
Knowing so well China's President
and Madame Chiang Kai-shek through my many years in China,
being on the Committee of Three in charge of the Presiden-
tial Church in Nanking, and having so recently returned to
America from Nanking and Formosa, - I felt I must send the
enclosed statement to some of the newspapers here.
My
friends, including Dr. John R. Mott, thinking that this
may not have come to your notice have urged me to send a
copy of this directly to you, also.
So I am asking my good friend, Dr.
Harris, Senate Chaplain, please to get this to you. With
high personal regards and strong belief that as a fellow
Christian you will be interested in the statement attached,-
sending my best wishes to you and to Mrs. Truman, well re-
membering the pleasure of meeting you both when D was last
in the United States, I am
Very respectfully,
may fination
(Mrs.) Mary Fine Twinem
(I have been teaching at Nanking University, Nanking, China
since 1919, thirty years ago - and left there just the day
prior to President's withdrawal. - M.F.T.)
