MEMORANDUM TO THE PRESIDENT
SUBJECT: Special Electronic Search Operations (SESP)
On May 19 you acted on a. policy paper from the
Joint Chiefs of Staff on the operations of Special
Electronic Airborne Search Operations. By marginal
note you asked for clarification of the following
statement:
"Aircraft engaged in these operations over routes
normally flown by unarmed transport-type aircraft, i.e.,
the land masses of the Allied Occupation Zones and the
Berlin and Vienna corridors, will continue to operate
with or without armament. If
That statement is meant to permit operation of
either armed or unarmed aircraft dependent upon whether
the armed or unarmed type is available at the particular
time.
