MOLLINEDO, Alfredo (Dro)
Senor Mollinedo
Ambassador to the Organization of American States
Mollinedo is 55 years of ago, a medical doctor by profession
who hold his first cabinet post as Minister of Health in 1938 undar
Gérman Busch and hold the post of Minister of Government from
Septembor 1947 until April 1950. Dr. Mollinedo received part of
his medical aducation in Philadolphie and from 1922 until 1928 was
Director of Public Health in Is Paz. He has also served as Deputy
and Alternate Deputy in the Bolivian Congress. Following an
unauthorized settlement of a striks of bank workers and printers
in April 1950, his resignation as Minister of Government, to which
post he had beon appointed in 1947, was accepted by President
Urriolagoitic who folt he bad been double-crossed by Mollinedo. It
is believed that this affair was planned by the latter to gain
support for the presidency in 1951, a position to which he has long
aspired. He has been characterized as "the Huey Long of Bolivia" o
Mollinedo is friendly to the United States.
