8. I urged that arrangements be made for you to talk with
Rene Pleven, who is now in this country attending the San Francisco
Conference. He is the Minister of Finance and the Minister of
Economy of the French Cabinet and the former Minister of Colonies.
He started out early with de Gaulle in Africa and is very close
to him. He is probably the most influential figure with de Gaulle.
He speaks English well and is familiar with this country.
