MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Message from General de Gaulle concern-
ing Stuttgart.
There is enclosed a copy of telegram No. 2380 of
May 5, noon, from Paris which contains a translation
of General de Gaulle's reply to your recent message to
him on the subject of Stuttgart. The text of his
letter of May 2 to General Eisenhower to which reference
is made has already been transmitted to the War Depart-
ment which, I understand, is making a copy available to
you.
The telegram in which Ambassador Caffery stated
he was reporting gome of the remarks made to him by
General de Gaulle has not yet reached the Department.
A copy will be sent to you as soon as it is received.
