THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
August 23, 1945.
MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT:
Leo Crowley telephoned this after-
noon and reported that everything had
been arranged satisfactorily with General
de Gaulle. They went into the matters of
inventory, stock pile and procurement.
General de Gaulle is expected to seek an
appointment tomorrow to talk to you in
connection with a request for a loan of
five hundred million dollars. Crowley
says that a reasonable amount will be
considered but he does not know whether
the entire amount could be granted at
this time. He says that he expects you
will have no trouble with de Gaulle and
that he appears to be satisfied that
France is getting the same consideration
that is being given other countries.
