Paris
November 15, 1952
Dear Mr. President:
Since my daughter-in-law will have the honor and
pleasure of seeing you, I am counting on her to give
you this message of friendship.
I sincerely regretted - and I am not the only one
in France - your decision to retire. I said the same
thing to Miss Truman when she was in Paris, but now since
it is an accomplished fact, I fully understand your
decision since I have for some time decided not to seek
the renewal of my tenure of office at the end of next
year.
After 57 years of public life the burden is too heavy
and I have no wish to leave this house in a wooden box.
I hope now that you are free you will be able to
come to Paris more easily. Our family circle awaits you
and Mrs. Truman. I would appreciate it if you would ex-
tend to her my deepest and most cordial homage in which
Madame Auriol joins me.
Believe me,
Your very sincere friend,
ACHIVES NATIONAL
