Upon Receiving The Musical Clock And Two Candelabra
From French Ambassador Henri Bonnet
North Portico Of The White House
April 18, 1952, 12.05 p.m., e.s.t.
AMBASSADOR BONNET : Mr. President, in the name
of President Auriol, it gives me great pleasure to present
to you, for the renovated White House, this 18th century
musical clock and the candelabra, as a token of the deep
gratitude and friendship of the French people for the
people of America.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much, Mr. Ambassa-
dor. We shall place this beautiful clock and candelabra
in the Red Room, and every visitor who goes through the
White House will see it and thank the people of France,
and the President of France, for giving it to us.
