Mister President,
In spite of my frightful accent, in spite of the
trouble I will have in making myself understood, and
perhaps even more in speaking at all, it is in your own
language that I would like to thank you for your cordial
welcome and your friendly words and to express to you
the profound gratitude of France towards the great and
noble country of the United States. My lack of skill
will make you hear more clearly a kind of accent about
which there can be no mistake: that of the heart.
