THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON 11 July 1952 MEMORANDUM FOR: THE PRESIDENT In a conversation with President Somozo of Nicaragua, during my recent assignment, he in- dicated that because of his suddenly aggravated illness he was unable to accomplish several projects of extreme importance to the Nicaraguan Government. It is his understanding, under State Department protocol, the possibility of another visit to the United States would have to be put off for possibly a year. He has several plans affecting the 21 nations of the Western Hemisphere that he would like to discuss with you. He suggested the possibility of your taking a day or two when you are at Key West to visit Nicaragua, at which time you could completely discuss the matters he has in mind. The other solution would be to permit him to come to the United States again either on an unofficial or an official visit. Edthan L.J. MARA COLONEL, A.D.C. Assistant Military Aide to the President
