C Executive Offices THE GRAND COUNCIL OF THE P ORDER OF DeMOLAY Y Armour and Warwick Boulevards Kansas City 2, Missouri FRANK S. LAND Founder and Secretary General My dear Mr. President: It was mighty good talking to you. You relieved my mind tr emendously when you asked me to send on to you the information stated below. When Ray Denslow called me about it I questioned the propriety of passing it on to you, but Matt was so understanding he put me right through to you. The cable from Dr. Theodore Vogel, Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of Germany, given over the phone, is as follows: "DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO PREVENT FOR GOD AND HUMANITY'S SAKE THE LANDSBURG DEATH SENTENCES FROM BEING EXECUTED. EXECUTION WILL DECISIVELY DAMAGE RECONSTRUCTION OF UNITED GRAND LODGE AND WILL ENDANGER EVERYTHING YET ACHIEVED. BY VIRTUE OF MY OFFICE AND IN THE NAME OF GERMANY'S FREE- MASONS I HAVE TODAY SENT A WIRE TO THE AMERICAN HIGH COMMISSIONER MR. McCLOY AND REQUESTED HIM NOT TO REJECT OUR PLEA SINCE GERMAN FREEMASONRY AND ALL OF THE GERMAN PEOPLE ARE UNITED IN THIS RE- QUEST AND JOINTLY ENDEAVOR TO SERVE PEOPLE AND HUMANITY.' From what Ray tells me, Dr. Vogel is a man of outstanding qualities and he feels that he can be depended upon. The United Grand Lodge is com- posed of nine subordinate Grand Lodges and Dr. Vogel was the man who was selected to be Grand Master of the composite group. I think it can also be stated that as far as we know, not a single one of the eight or nine thousand Masons that belong to this group and went underground during the War ever supported Hitler. Ray thinks that the Doctor would not have sent the above mentioned cable if it was not absolutely necessary. As I told you over the phone, we know nothing about the Landsburg situation and how it affects the United Grand Lodge and the German people. If I remember rightly, the Landsburg trials have been held in the British Occupation Zone and if this is the case, Dr. Vogel was hoping that some assistance could come from this country. AND is SERVICE" sum and
