LAND\nFounder and\nSecretary General\nMy dear Mr. President:\nIt was mighty good talking to you. You relieved my mind tr emendously\nwhen you asked me to send on to you the information stated below. When\nRay Denslow called me about it I questioned the propriety of passing it\non to you, but Matt was so understanding he put me right through to you.\nThe cable from Dr. Theodore Vogel, Grand Master of the United Grand\nLodge of Germany, given over the phone, is as follows:\n\"DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO PREVENT FOR GOD AND\nHUMANITY'S SAKE THE LANDSBURG DEATH SENTENCES\nFROM BEING EXECUTED. EXECUTION WILL DECISIVELY\nDAMAGE RECONSTRUCTION OF UNITED GRAND LODGE AND\nWILL ENDANGER EVERYTHING YET ACHIEVED. BY VIRTUE\nOF MY OFFICE AND IN THE NAME OF GERMANY'S FREE-\nMASONS I HAVE TODAY SENT A WIRE TO THE AMERICAN\nHIGH COMMISSIONER MR. McCLOY AND REQUESTED HIM NOT\nTO REJECT OUR PLEA SINCE GERMAN FREEMASONRY AND\nALL OF THE GERMAN PEOPLE ARE UNITED IN THIS RE-\nQUEST AND JOINTLY ENDEAVOR TO SERVE PEOPLE AND\nHUMANITY.'\nFrom what Ray tells me, Dr. Vogel is a man of outstanding qualities and\nhe feels that he can be depended upon. The United Grand Lodge is com-\nposed of nine subordinate Grand Lodges and Dr. Vogel was the man who\nwas selected to be Grand Master of the composite group. I think it can\nalso be stated that as far as we know, not a single one of the eight or nine\nthousand Masons that belong to this group and went underground during the\nWar ever supported Hitler.\nRay thinks that the Doctor would not have sent the above mentioned cable\nif it was not absolutely necessary. As I told you over the phone, we know\nnothing about the Landsburg situation and how it affects the United Grand\nLodge and the German people. If I remember rightly, the Landsburg\ntrials have been held in the British Occupation Zone and if this is the case,\nDr. Vogel was hoping that some assistance could come from this country.\nAND\nis\nSERVICE\"\nsum\nand"
