MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: French Desire to Issue V-E Day
Proclamation.
In connection with the statement which I made
at Cabinet today, I enclose a translation of the
Aide Memoire from the French Embassy to the effect
that the French Government would like to be informed
of the arrangements that are being made by the
Allied chiefs of state to issue a proclamation to
their people apprising them of the cessation of
hostilities when that moment comes so that General
de Gaulle may issue a. similar proclamation at the
same time to the French people.
