(3) The reason why those who oppose Presidenr Roosvelt's plan for the New Deal can find no other means to restore prosperity is that there is no other Wa. This nation would fall to beggary on a standard of living based on necessities only. It is the part of wisdom for industry and the enterprises cousinly to it to realize this. "The earnest effort of business men in the NRA to find a footing for prosperity in that plan shows that the thinkers in business believe sincerely in the NRA. This regardless of the loud mouthings of Senator Roscoe C. Patterson. They realize that it will take time to recover from the pillage of several generations. Senator Patterson is the last exemplar of the dying order. He voted to deny millions food. He voted against giving the million work. He voted against every effort to take this country from the abyss in which he aid- ed in plunging it. He is and was part of the sinister and ruthless machine which brought America to her knees. It was by the aid of Patterson that the Hawley- Smoot tariff bill was passed. By it,the last great syphon was put into the pockets of the public. It doubled the preceding tariff rates. This would have gladdened the heart of Hanna and the spoliers of his generation. "The back of the machine is broken. Great numbers of Republicans are with President Roosevelt and are aiding in picking up the wreckage strewn in the crash of their party. They realize now the deceit and the chicanery of it all and will be with Roosevelt to the end of the New Deal. RECEIVE
