WAR DEPARTMENT CLASSIFIED MESSAGE CENTER INCOMING CLASSIFIED MESSAGE not deglasSified PRIORITY E.O. 11652, Sec. 3(E) and 5(D) or (E) Dept. of State letter, Aug. 10, 1972 By NLITHE NARS Date 7.23.75 From: US Military. Mission, Moscow, Russia To: War Department Nr: M 24674 13 June 1945 To AGWAR personal for General Marshall from Harrimen signed Deane M 24674. At two diffetent meetings with Marshal Stalin while Hopkins was here, Stalin said that he would welcome General Eisenhower visiting Moscow. He was particularly anxious to have him come for the Vietory Parade on June 24. Harry spoke to General Eisenhower when he saw him in Frankfurt and found out from him that he could not bet in Moscow on June 24 because of engagements in Ameriça but that if authorized to do so he could come to Moscow on July 9th. I feel it would be most desirable in our relations with the Soviet Union to have General Eisenhower come. There is no doubt that Stalin is anxious to have him. I am sure also that his visit will be useful in connection with the work of the Control Council for Germany. The atmosphere in our rolations with the Soviet Government is much improved as a result of Harry's visit, therefore I feel that General Eisenhower's visit at this time is opportune. I would appreciate your advising me whether his visit is approved in order that I cen inform Marshal Stalin who is awaiting a reply to his invitation.
