Salisbury, NEW YORK TIMES, informs that TIMES is
attempting obtain comments from Stalin on Krock inter-
view with President. James has telegraphed direct and
on instructions Salisbury has transmitted letter.
General comments are invited and Salisbury's letter
includes list questions which interview appeared suggest.
Salisbury inclined doubt Stalin will respond, feeling
that to de so might necessitate explanations in Soviet
press which would inevitably include some of substance
President's statements. No mention interview yet carried
Soviet press.
