ODORET
Since the preparation of this memorandum we have
just received a telegram from Mr. Kirk at Caserta dated
May 3, 10 p.m., (copy attached) which says that Gen-
eral Freyburg, the Allied General, found no Yugoslav
Partisans in Trieste when the German garrison surren-
dered to him.
Press despatches from Italy, also just received,
report demonstration by 20,000 Italians in Rome against
Yugoslav claims to the Venezia Giulia, especially Trieste,
ending in a clash between University students and Com-
munists.
