DISPOSITION OF THE FORMER ITALIAN COLONIES IN AFRICA
Reference NSC 19
The National Security Council, by Memorandum Approval, consid-
ered a draft report on the above subject (NSC 19) and adopted it
subject to:
a.
Amendments to paragraphs 15-a, b, and proposed by
the Department of State, which are incorporated in the enclosed
Report;
b.
A provision by the Secretary of the Army that a final
decision on the disposition of Eritrea will not be effected
prior to review of that decision by the Joint Chief's of Staff;
and
C.
An understanding by the Secretary of the Navy that if
a proposal is made for US trusteeship of Tripolitania, such
proposal will not be turned down without consultation between
the interested Executive Departments of the US Government.
The National Security Council recommends that the President ap-
prove the Conclusions contained herein and direct that they be im-
plemented by all appropriate Executive Departments and Agencies of
the US Government under the coordination of the Secretary of State.
