see me DEPARTMENT OF STATE WASHINGTON May 3,1951 MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT Subject: Illness of the Shah of Iran Ambassador Grady in Tehran has informed the Depart- ment that he has delivered your message to the Shah offering the services of General Graham. Mr. Grady reports that the Shab was genuinely touched at this manifestation of kindness and solicitude for him but that he does not believe his condition warrants immediate attention and prefers to wait before submitting to further examinations or to an operation. The Shah, according to Ambassador Grady, has been in correspondence with his physician in New York who has expressed the opinion that he may be suffering from a rare disease of the duodenum which will require major Break in surgery and has urged him to come to New York for treat- ment.
