THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
September 19, 1951
Dear Mr. President:
I have just received your kind
letter of August 16, which traveled to Tehran
and back. Even though I am sorry I failed
to carry out what you hoped I would in
developing a settlement of the oil dispute,
I still feel that substantial progress was
made and in spite of the explosive nature of
the situation there is greater hope today in
finding a solution than there was when you
sent me.
Marie was grateful for your good
wishes and her presence was of a great deal
of help, both because of the personal contacts
that she made and also because it helped to
relieve the tension.
Thanks again for your thought of me.
Respectfully,
Edita
