In order that the Unified Command (USG) may be in a position to account to the United Nations in this matter, it will be essen- tial that the Commanding General of the Unified Command keep the United States Government fully and promptly informed with respect to matters on which consultation takes place with the Commission. (2) Interim Committee on Korea at Lake Success By order of the General Assembly the members of the new United Nations Commission have established at Lake Success an Interim Committee "to consult with and advise the United Nations Unified Command in the light of" the Assembly's recommendations on Korea. States members are Australia, Chile, Netherlands, Pakistan, Philippines, Turkey and Thailand. General Romulo has been elected Chairman of this Committee. It will cease to function upen the arrival of the United Netions Commission in Korea. The Asiatic flavor of its composition underlines the poli- tical importance cf preper handling of eur relations with it. Ambassadcr Warren Austin has been designated as the person responsible for United States liaison with the Com- nittee. The Interim Committee now has before it a draft resclu- tion proposed by the Australians relating to the assumption of occupational responsibility by the Unified Command for North Korea pending a decision by the United Nations Commis- sicn on the administration of these territories. The resclu- ticn would also recommend that the Unified Command asscciate officers from the several national forces serving under the United Nations in Korea with the temporary civilian a:mminis- tration of North Korea.
