We have been informed in complete confidence by high Swiss
DCR
officer that Swiss general staff were very concerned at
first news from Korea but were delighted to hear of "prompt
and strong" US measures covering not only Korea but also
Indochina, Formosa, and Philippines.
Officer, whose position insures reliability of his information,
added that Swiss general staff believes there would be no
general war as result Korean developments, but that we
could expect increased Communist activity France, Italy
and Germany as Soviet countermeasure
