UNA
I had short talk late yesterday with Foreign Minister
USUN
re Korean situation. His attitude as expressed was
OLI
calm and measured. From his brief remarks it was
CIA
evident he entirely approved and commended action
AAN
President Truman has taken as well as action Security
IE
Council. He said he was of course concerned as to
PA
possible outcome and danger another world war, but
DCR
added that free nations of world had to take stand now
that any recession would be fatal. He mentioned having
received communication from Secretary General Lie of
UN (DEPCIR June 28, 7 a.m.) but said he had not seen
President Dutra since development Korean events and
that situation obviously was one which did not concern
him alone, but entire government. He did not indicate
when President would convoke Cabinet meeting nor did
he make any mention of reply to Secretary General Lie.
All e omment from responsible government officials to me
personally has indicated realization of seriousness
situation and full support position which US has taken.
Although Foreign Office and responsible officials realize
UN necessary medium through which action is being taken,
real interest is focused on US Government's action.
