My dear Mr. MacArthur:
I am writing to acknowledge the receipt of
your letter to the President of October thirteenth,
The President appreciated very mich receiving your
good wishes and is pleased to know that you enjoyed
listening to the talk which he delivered soon after
his arrival at Pearl Harbor.
It will not be possible for the President
to write a preface to the editorial which you sent
with your letter, as the President is not in a posi-
tion to write endorsements or prefaces for editorials
or articles.
Sincerely yours,
GEORGE M. ELSEY
