MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Communication from the Former German
Minister, von Ribbentrop
The British Ambassador has informed me that when
the former German Foreign Minister, von Ribbentrop,
was captured in Hamburg he had in his possession a
note addressed to Field Marshal Montgomery requesting
him to forward a letter to "the British Prime Minister,
Mr. Vincent Churchill, and to the British Foreign
Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, personally and confiden-
tially".
Copies of these communications were transmitted
to me by the British Ambassador with the request that
a copy of each one be forwarded to you on behalf of the
Prime Minister and I am accordingly enclosing a copy
of both documents.
