In July of 1931 the Commist International saw fit to take an
attitude of positive hostility toward the Weimer Republis, and
direated the faithful to work for its destrustion. This was seeming-
ly under the delusion, bred of their habitual obsession, that the
European Financial Crisis of 1931 was harbinger of an imminent
collapse of capitalism, and 30 all good Communists should be on
hand to take over. It in impossible to say how much influence upon
following aventa should be ascribed to this fastor. Allegations
seem credible that thereafter Communista enrolled in the Nazi Party,
to help push it along, on the theory that once Nazism had overthrown
Weimarism, Communiam would prove the ultimate beneficiary. The
abundant atreet clashes between Mazia and Communiats do not necess-
arily disprova these allegations. On the shorter run, hitherto,
the theory might seem deceptive. For the longer 3 tretch, and to-
morrow, will this theory come into its own? What are a few years
in the lives of nations, or of a faith?

The overthrow of the traditional monarchy, by Socialist
presaurs, and the proclamation of a Republic by Scheidemann, Nov.9th,
1913, ereated a political vanuim from the viewpoint of all those
