OF a NARK Date 2.7.15.25 10,1872 His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Ilah, The Regent and Heir Apparent of Iraq The Hashemi te Family The Regent is a member of the Hashemite family, one of the great Arab families which traces its descent to Mohammed through Mohammed's daughter, Fatima, and which, during modern times have been the Emirs of Hejaz and Sharifs of Mecca. The Sharifs of Mecca have always been notable not only among the Arabs, but in the whole Moslem world with its population of 250,000,000, since they have been considered as the protectors of the Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina. ARCHILE In 1915 Emir Hussein, the grandfather of the SERVICE* someone Regent, was Sharif of Mecca, which at that time was a part of the Ottoman Empire. A group of British agents, including Lawrence, persuaded Hussein and his family to take the leading role in promoting Arab rebellion against the Turks. Hussein's four sons, who in order of age were Ali, the father of the Regent; Abdullah, a.t present Emir of Trans-Jordan; Feisal, later King of Iraq and grandfather of the present boy King, Feisal II; and Zaid, at present Acting Regent of Iraq in the absence of the Regent, participated in the rebellion.
