MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Toast to the King of Iraq
According to custom it will be appropriate for
you, at your dinner for the Regent of Iraq, to rise
at a moment between courses after the champagne has
been served and to offer the following toast:
Gentlemen: I ask you to join me in a
toast to the health of Hi 8 Majesty the King
of Iraq. The King!
(The Regent is then expected to rise,
after you and the guests have resumed their
seats and propose a toast to the President of
the United States, who will remain seated while
the others drink the toast.)
If you should wish to make any remarks, al-
though such are not necessary, it would be appro-
priate to make them after and separated from the
two toasts. The Regent could then, if he so
desired, reply.
