    "ocrText": "REPORT OF THE FIELD REPRESENTATIVE ON THE FIELD TRIP\nTO FLORENCE, PISA, AND BOLOGNA AREAS.\nThe Field Representative left Rome by car on the 8th of January\narriving in Florence on the same day. He contacted Dr. Francesco\nGambella, Chief of the ENDSI office in Florence, from whom he got a\ncomplete report on the distribution of American Red Cross garments to\nthe hospitals in the province and in the town of Florence. The Field\nRepresentative then visited the ENDSI warehouse which was in perfect\norder and with all its records up to date.\nOn January the 9th, the Field Representative, accompanied by Dr.\nCimara, Inspector of ENDSI, visited the warehouse of the Provincial\nCommittee of ENDSI for general distribution of clothing in the province\nof Florence. He met Comm. Persico who is the Representative of the\nPrefect in the Provincial Committee. Comm. Persico showed to the Field\nRepresentative all the process of the preparation of packages. The\nbales are opened and the complete inventory is drawn for each bale.\nThe garments are then sorted and the packages are prepared according\nto different types and different sizes.\nThe Field Representative then supervised the loading of some rail-\nroad cars with clothing that was being sent to Bologna for distribution.\nIn the afternoon the Field Representative drove through Pistoia\nto Pisa, where he visited the \"Ospedáli Riuniti di S. Chiara\". This\nhospital was badly in need of garments for its patients, some of them\nwere lying in their beds completely naked.\nUpon his relturn to Florence, the Field Representative issued\ninstructions to Dr. Gambella in order to begin immediately the dis-\ntribution of A.R.C. garments for hospitals in the provinces of Pisa\nand Pistoia.\nOn January the 10th, the Field Representative drove to Bologna where\nhe met Dr. Pedde-Lay (Inspector of ENDSI for Emilia region), and\nDr. Del Sonno (Inspector of ENDSI for Bologna province. After\nhaving received a full report on the preparation of the distribution\nfor Bologna province, the Field Representative was received by Comm.\nDe Sena, Vice Prefect and Representative of the Prefect in the\nProvincial Committee of ENDSI. Comm. De Sena is taking the deepest\ninterest in the distribution, for whose general expenses the Prefect\nhas allocated over 3,000,000 Liras.\nThe Vice Prefect asked the Field Representative to forward the\nfeelings of gratitude of all the inhabitants of the badly shattered\nprovince of Bologna to American Relief for Italy, to American Red\nCross, and to all the American people.\nThe Field Representative then visited the Provincial warehouse\nof Bologna and supervised the preparation of the packages. Eash\npackage is completely wrapped in paper and sealed with a tag which\nshows the contents of the packages. In the same evening the Field\nRepresentative drove back to Florence.\nOn Jan. the llth, after a final meeting with Dr. Gambella and\nDr. Cimara, the Field Representative left for Rome.\n(sd) A.
