tutions and ways of other peoples before we can enter into fruitful cooperation with them for facing a common enemy and solving common problems? This, Doctor Dawson, is the searching, fundamental question which underlies the issue of representation at Vatican City. It is the question on which the future of Christian civilization and the democratic way of life may well hang. So far it has not been discussed at a level ade- quate to the greatness of the present occasion or worthy of true Americanism. Is it not time for Protestants and Catholics alike to rise above mistrust and prejudice, above littleness and fear, and unite to do their utmost, under God, that the world may not perish but may be made safe for democracy and for brotherhood? Sincerely yours, Charles W. Lowry, Rector All Saints' Episcopal Church Chevy Chase, Maryland
