Envisaging the grave situation within and the provocatory propaganda without, he remained intrepid and resolute. His government having exhausted every possibility of direct negotiation with the northern neighbour, His Majesty was determined to refer the case of Iran to the Security Council and to restore order within his own territory. No sooner had the foreign forces evacuated Iran and regular troops, sent from Teheran, penetrated into the north western province than the whole insurrectionary movement fell to the ground and the quislings fled for their lives. The immediate danger to the integrity of Persia having thus been warded off, the Shah set to work to improve internal conditions by promoting equitable legislation, educational programs and social justice. He sponsored the Seven Year Plan of social and economic development which has reached the phase of execution and founded a social welfare service which has greatly ex- panded and now brings health and comfort to the rural population in outlying s TREMAR NATIONAL districts through some sixty dispensaries. ARCHIVES AND RECORDS = SERVICE" Mohammad Reza Shah is a fine sportsman and athlete, - being equally well trained in football, tennis, swimming, skiing, riding, shooting as well as piloting his own aeroplane. Last year His Majesty attended the Olympic games in London and was the guest of His Majesty the King of England. He also paid state visits to France, Italy and Switzerland. The Shah will visit the United States in November upon the invitation of the President. His Majesty has expressed the wish to study the working of the great democratic system and the social, industrial and agricultural development of America.
