In fact a step was being taken in the disin-\ntegration of the country.\nThe young Shah faced this formidable challenge with astonishing\npatience and firmness. Envisaging the grave situation within and the provocatory\npropaganda without, he remained intrepid and resolute. His government having\nexhausted every possibility of direct negotiation with the northern neighbour,\nHis Majesty was determined to refer the case of Iran to the Security Council and\nto restore order within his own territory. No sooner had the foreign forces\nevacuated Iran and regular troops, sent from Teheran, penetrated into the north\nwestern province than the whole insurrectionary movement fell to the ground and\nthe quislings fled for their lives.\nThe immediate danger to the integrity of Persia having thus been\nwarded off, the Shah set to work to improve internal conditions by promoting\nequitable legislation, educational programs and social justice. He sponsored\nthe Seven Year Plan of social and economic development which has reached the\nphase of execution and founded a social welfare service which has greatly ex-\npanded and now brings health and comfort to the rural population in outlying\ns\nTREMAR\nNATIONAL\ndistricts through some sixty dispensaries.\nARCHIVES AND\nRECORDS\n=\nSERVICE\"\nMohammad Reza Shah is a fine sportsman and athlete, - being equally\nwell trained in football, tennis, swimming, skiing, riding, shooting as well\nas piloting his own aeroplane.\nLast year His Majesty attended the Olympic games in London and was the\nguest of His Majesty the King of England. He also paid state visits to France,\nItaly and Switzerland. The Shah will visit the United States in November upon\nthe invitation of the President.\nHis Majesty has expressed the wish to study the working of the great\ndemocratic system and the social, industrial and agricultural development of\nAmerica."
