DRAFT My dear Mr. President: I have received your kind letter of December 5 and I greatly appreciated your thoughtfulness in writing to me as you did. I was gled to be able to appoint the Special Mission to your inauguration, and it is good to have your generous comment on its participation. I was also very pleased that the Secretary of the Treasury, the Honorable John Snyder, was able to accept your kind invitation to be present at the inaugural ceremonies. I am delighted to accept your courteous and friendly invitation to visit your great nation. Depending upon air- cunstances prevailing at the time, I should like to make the visit for a few days sometime during the period between February 15 and March 15, 1947, the details of which can be worked out at a later date. In addition to visiting Mexico City for two days if that meets with your approval, I should like to spend approximately a week making informal visits to some of the other areas of Mexico, and your suggestion regarding the opportunity to fish at Acapulco interests me greatly. During my visit to your nation's capital, I plan to reside at my country's Embassy. It affords me great pleasure to extend to you a cordial invitation to repay my visit as soon as practicable and at a time which will be convenient to you. It occurs to me that subject to your approval, sometime during April would be a very suitable time for you to come to Washington as the official guest of my Government. I hope that you will be able to accept my invitation and that as soon as we can determine the approximate dates of the two visits, we may make simultaneous public announcements regarding the plane. I take this opportunity to renew to you, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest consideration and cordial friendship. Very sincerely yours, TRUMAN His Excellency Licenciado Miguel Aleman, President of the ARCHIVES GOVERNMENT SERVICE" RECORDS "NATIONAL AND United Mexican States, Mexico, D. F.
