OCR Page 1 of 3TENTATIVE DRAFT RESOLUTION
THE SECURITY COUNCIL,
RECALLING its resolutions of 24 December 1948 and 28 December
1948;
TAKING NOTE of the reports submitted to the Security Council
by its Commission of Good Offices;
NOTING THAT the parties concerned continue to adhere to the
fundamental political principles of the Renville Agreement
and agree that in accordance with the fourth of its additional
Principles the method of free and democratic elections, or any
other method for ascertaining the will of the populations,
should be employed for the purpose of establishing a constituent
assembly for Indonesia at the earliest practicable date, and
further have invited the Security Council to arrange for the
observation of elections of such a nature by an agency of the
United Nations;
NOTING THAT the Netherlands Government has declared its desire
to have such elections held not later than October 1st, 1949;
NOTING THAT the Netherlands Government has declared its inten-
tion to transfer sovereignty over Indonesia to a free and
independent U.S.I. in the course of 1950;
(1) CALLS UPON the parties concerned to ensure the
immediate discontinuance of military operations and to
cooperate in the restoration of peace throughout the areas
affected;
